1. Always confirm the technician who is installing your new windshield is using a glass product that is not only DOT certified but also exceeds the standards as established by the code of safety. Your new windshield should also exceed the motor safety standards 212 and 216 of the FMVSS enacted by the United States Department of Transportation. As stated in both sections, your windshield must serve maximum support to the roof in the event of an accident. By doing so, it must retain a minimum of 75% adhesion to the vehicle and also according the FMVSS 216 your windshield must meet a structural strength capacity of 5000 lbs. per one half of a second. Equally important to the glass itself, your installation procedure must meet all safety guidelines enforced by the Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standards and also the NTMVSA. Enacted in 1996, the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act states that "no manufacturer, distributor or motor vehicle repair business intentionally or knowingly install devices or motor vehicle equipment which application process may compromise the safety and integrity of the vehicle, it's owner, or any passenger which may be traveling with the driver. The only acception to this regulation is that if the vehicle is being utilized for testing or equal circumstance. When you have trusted the care of
your vehicle and the safety of yourself and others to our technicians at Hillcrest Auto Glass, you can be rest assured you made the right choice. Each and every one of our specialists are in full compliance with all state and national guidelines and are dedicated to remaining abreast in the latest innovations in glass safety.

3. In the event you should crack your windshield, it is critical to have the glass repaired or replaced as soon as humanly possible! By delaying a repair, no matter how small the crack may be, you are allowing the probability that the crack will actually get worse. Many factors contribute to this possibility. Some include the typical vibrations occurring during your daily driving, extreme temperatures such as the car sitting in direct sunlight during the hot summer months and the freezing of the glass during the winter, washing your car on a hot day and defrosting your

Hillcrest Auto Glass 4. Not only for the integrity of your windshield but more importantly your safety, routine maintenance and cleaning of the glass is extremely important. Make sure to clean the glass regularly! Debris such as dirt, insects, etc. create an obvious visual obstruction and jeopardizes your ability to drive safely. Your windshield can be easily cleaned with just soap and water, the glass cleaner you use in your home or any other nonabrasive solution that will provide a clean and clear shine. Just apply your cleaner of choice and wipe dry with a paper towel so avoid streaking. Also be sure to check your windshield washer solvent reservoir regularly. When needed, the cleaner contained will provide a fast solution for an unexpected
problem. After a cleaning, also consider applying a concentrated rain repellant to the glass. This will force the water to bounce from the glass without obstructing your driving view. Your windshield wipers should also always be maintained in top condition and should be checked and replaced routinely. This will prevent unnecessary scratching.

5. Always wear your seatbelt! Your safety and the safety of your passengers should always be your top concern when driving. Should an accident occur and your windshield becomes dismantled from the vehicle, the security of your seatbelt may save your life and the lives of your loved ones!
